If you live in Tennessee and are looking for psychiatric care, you do not have to live near a clinic to get it. Odinma Health provides online psychiatric care to teens and adults located anywhere in Tennessee, from Nashville and Memphis to Knoxville, Chattanooga and rural counties with few local providers. This page explains who provides the care, how a telehealth visit works, and what to expect before you book.

Who provides the care

Care at Odinma Health is provided by Jennifer Madu, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. A psychiatric nurse practitioner evaluates and diagnoses mental health conditions, prescribes and monitors medication when it is clinically appropriate, and can provide brief talk therapy. You can read more about her training on the Meet Jennifer Madu page.

How telehealth psychiatric visits work in Tennessee

Visits take place by secure video on a HIPAA-compliant platform. You need a phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a reliable internet connection, and a private place to talk. You must be physically located in Tennessee at the time of your visit.

  • First visit: a 60-minute evaluation covering your history, current symptoms and goals.
  • Follow-up visits: 30 minutes, to review how you are doing and adjust your care plan.

What we treat

Common reasons Tennessee patients seek care include depression, anxiety and panic, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and insomnia. Care may include medication management when appropriate, brief talk therapy using cognitive behavioral and solution-focused approaches, and guidance on sleep, exercise and other lifestyle factors. Treatment is individualized, and results vary from person to person.

Medication and prescribing

Medication is prescribed only after an evaluation and only when it is clinically appropriate. An appointment does not guarantee a prescription. In Tennessee, prescribing of controlled medications is limited and is considered case by case, based on a comprehensive evaluation and the provider's clinical judgment. See the FAQ for details.

Insurance and payment in Tennessee

Odinma Health accepts these plans for Tennessee patients: Aetna, Cigna (Evernorth), Oscar, UnitedHealthcare (Optum), BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, and MINES & Associates. Self-pay is also available. Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted. Coverage depends on your plan, so please confirm your benefits with your insurer.
