Many people in Tennessee wonder whether trouble focusing, chronic disorganization or constant restlessness could be ADHD. Odinma Health offers ADHD evaluation and treatment by telehealth for teens and adults located anywhere in Tennessee. This page explains what an evaluation involves, what treatment can include, and how prescribing works.

What an ADHD evaluation involves

An ADHD evaluation is more than a symptom checklist. Your first visit is a 60-minute video appointment with Jennifer Madu, DNP, PMHNP-BC, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. She reviews:

  • Your current symptoms and how they affect work, school and relationships
  • Your history, including whether symptoms were present earlier in life
  • Your medical history and current medications
  • Other conditions that can look like ADHD, such as anxiety, depression or poor sleep

Not everyone who is evaluated will be diagnosed with ADHD. Sometimes another condition better explains the symptoms, and the care plan addresses that instead.

What treatment can include

Treatment is built around the individual. Depending on your evaluation, a plan may include education about ADHD, behavioral and organizational strategies, brief talk therapy, attention to sleep and exercise, and medication when it is clinically appropriate. Follow-up visits are 30 minutes and are used to review progress and adjust the plan.

How prescribing works in Tennessee

Medication is prescribed only after an evaluation and only when it is clinically appropriate. An appointment does not guarantee a prescription or a specific medication. In Tennessee, prescribing of controlled medications is limited and is considered case by case, based on a comprehensive evaluation and the provider's clinical judgment. Non-controlled options and non-medication approaches are part of the discussion. The FAQ has more detail.

Telehealth requirements

Visits take place by secure video on a HIPAA-compliant platform. You need a device with a camera, a reliable internet connection, a private place to talk, and you must be located in Tennessee at the time of the visit.

Insurance and payment

For Tennessee patients, Odinma Health accepts Aetna, Cigna (Evernorth), Oscar, UnitedHealthcare (Optum), BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee, and MINES & Associates. Self-pay is available. Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted.
